It has been a little over a week since we launched and I am overwhelmed by the support I have received. I especially love the pictures of the littles who have been enjoying my story. 🥹

While I am far from a best seller (about 100 sales so far!), I am SO proud of myself. I have not paid for any advertising, I did this all by word of mouth.

Many have been surprised to find out that I originally wasnt planning on selling this. I was just doing it for my kids. But with the support and encouragement of a few good friends, I decided to do the thing and see where it lands.

To everyone who has supported this journey whether it be sharing a post, buying a copy, or just sending love: THANK YOU!

Life has been a lot lately. Joy, loss, celebration, and change are all tangled together. In the same week, I said goodbye to my grandma, I held the final copy of my book in my hands, celebrated my best friend’s new citizenship, and watched her prepare for a big move.

Through it all, one thing has been steady: my community. Thank you to the people who answer when I call, who hold space for both tears and laughter, and who remind me I don’t have to carry it all alone. ❤️

I still can't believe I did this. 🫣

Today, I stepped WAY out of my comfort zone.
I walked up to a random mom and daughter at lunch (at @tigerdenhr, of course) and asked if they would *cold read* my book and give me feedback.

I had a few misprints with me I was hoping to create some marketing materials with, so I didnt mind if they marked up pages.

Almost immediately, they spotted a typo. 😅
But instead of being embarrassed, I was so happy they caught it!

The daughter gave me very candid feedback (gotta love 9 year olds and their lack of filter), but she said she loved the message at the end! She also gave me ideas for questions I could ask during readings or school visits.

For an introvert like me, this was huge.
Sometimes, you have to turn off the nay sayer in your head and take a leap. It's often worth it.

I didnt get here alone. One of the first people I shared my original manuscript with was Stephiney Foley. A mom, West Point grad, Army Veteran, Entrepreneur, and passionate advocate for women's health and postpartum care.

Back when I was transitioning out of the military, @stephfoleyy told me something that I will never forget: "Take a beak. Figure yourself out before you move forward."

That advice gave me permission to dream and explore, and eventually write and publish this book!

I’ve had to learn so much by trial and error. Not because the information isn’t out there, but because I had to figure out each tool on its own and then piece everything together.

It all *seems* so straightforward in how-to blogs and YouTube videos, but the truth is, I had to learn most of it by *doing*.

Here are a few things I’ve learned along the way:

**Give yourself time.**
I wanted to rush every step and go as fast as possible just to hold my book in my hands. But rushing often meant sacrificing quality. Patience has been hard, but worth it.

**Try different tools to see what works best for you.**
I had no idea how to find or collaborate with an illustrator, how to format a picture book, or how to distribute to bookstores. I spent hours experimenting with Canva, Adobe, Reedsy, and more to out what felt right for *me*.

**Order proofs before publishing!**
My latest lesson: even if the PDF looks perfect, the print version might surprise you. I caught a small printing error in my proofs. It was minor and most probably wouldn't have noticed, but I would’ve known it was there. I’m so glad I took the extra step.

This whole journey has been one giant (and rewarding!) learning process. If I ever do this again, I’ll be grateful I took the time to figure so much of it out myself.

When we miss Asia but can't afford a plane ticket, we just wander the aisles, stop to look at all the fish tanks 🦞 (mandatory stop according to the kiddos), and eat a snack at the food court. 🍜🧋

One of the first things people ask me about my book is the title—why that name? 💭

The answer, like most things in my life, goes back to my kids. When I was pregnant with my son, we nicknamed him Pork Bun (a sweet little family tradition of food-based nicknames for babies).

One of the first things people ask me about my book is the title—why that name? 💭

The answer, like most things in my life, goes back to my kids. When I was pregnant with my son, we nicknamed him Pork Bun (a sweet little family tradition of food-based nicknames for babies).

Coming Fall of 2025!

We are hard at work finishing up the last details and illustrations to get this labor of love published this year.

I have been working on this off and on for about 3 years, and it's finally feeling more real!

Thank you so much, @dali_wu_art, for her AMAZING illustrations. She has been incredible to work with, and I can't wait to share what we have created.
